According to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), Indonesia's banana production volume reached 9.26 million tons in 2024.
The volume decreased by 75,000 tons, or 0.8% year-on-year (yoy).
Along with the decline in production, Indonesian household banana consumption also fell by 23.23% (yoy) to 1.81 million tons in 2024.
In 2024, East Java was the largest banana-producing region in Indonesia, with a volume of 2.77 million tons, contributing 29.89% to the national total production.
This was followed by Lampung with a production volume of 1.58 million tons (17.09%) and West Java with 1.24 million tons (13.35%).
BPS also recorded that in 2024, Indonesia exported 26,240 tons of fresh bananas worth US$10.52 million.
Indonesia's largest fresh banana export markets were Malaysia (16,860 tons, US$4.97 million), Japan (3,830 tons, US$2.30 million), and Singapore (3,240 tons, US$1.91 million).
