According to market research firm Canalys, global wearable device shipments totaled 44.3 million units in Q2 2024. Of this total, 35% were smartwatches.

Canalys reports that wearable sales in this segment have resumed growth after six consecutive quarters of decline, although the increase was only 0.1% year-on-year (YoY).

"The return to growth brings some positives for vendors ahead of the holiday shopping season and product launches in the second half of the year," said Canalys Research Analyst Jack Leathem in his report on Wednesday, July 28, 2024.

In Q2 2024, Apple led global smartwatch shipments with a 49% market share, followed by Samsung with 15%.

Garmin, known for its fitness-focused smartwatches, held an 11% shipment share.

Huawei and Google held 7% and 4% smartwatch shipment shares, respectively.

Canalys suggests that to compete in this competitive market, smartwatch manufacturers must deliver significant improvements in health features, battery life, and the utilization of artificial intelligence (AI).
