The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that in 2023, the average expenditure of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia reached US$1,625.36 or Rp25.87 million per visit (assuming Rp15,919 per US$).

Compared to the pre-COVID-19 pandemic period, the 2023 achievement is also higher.
In 2019, the average expenditure of foreign tourists was only US$1,145.64 or equivalent to Rp18.23 million per visit.
BPS stated that the increase in foreign tourist spending in 2023 was partly influenced by an increase in their length of stay.

In line with this, in 2023, the average expenditure per night by foreign tourists also increased by 26.45% (YoY) to US$127.88 or Rp2.03 million per night.
In 2023, the majority, or 77.72%, of foreign tourists came to Indonesia for leisure, followed by 8.35% for business, and 13.93% for other personal reasons.
