According to World Health Organization (WHO) data, the number of global Covid-19 cases increased in the last month.
On April 20, 2025, the WHO received reports of 30,553 new Covid-19 cases globally.
Then, on May 18, 2025, another report emerged showing 150,503 new cases, a surge of approximately five times compared to the previous month.
On May 18, 2025, approximately 85% of new global Covid-19 cases were recorded in Thailand. The remaining 15% were spread across dozens of other countries, mostly in Europe and America.
The following is a list of the 10 countries with the highest number of new Covid-19 cases on May 18, 2025, based on reports compiled by the WHO:
1. Thailand: 127,845 cases
2. Brazil: 7,844 cases
3. United Kingdom: 5,060 cases
4. Greece: 2,367 cases
5. France: 896 cases
6. Ireland: 643 cases
7. Colombia: 574 cases
8. Lithuania: 492 cases
9. Norway: 486 cases
10. Czech Republic: 400 cases
Meanwhile, the number of new Covid-19 cases recorded in Indonesia on May 18, 2025, reached 36 cases, considerably lower than the countries listed above.
Covid-19 is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. People infected with this virus can experience mild to moderate respiratory illness.
However, the impact can be fatal for vulnerable groups, such as the elderly or those with cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and so on.
According to the WHO, the most common symptoms of Covid-19 are fever, cough, fatigue, and loss of taste or smell.
To prevent the spread of Covid-19, the WHO urges the public to do the following:
* Get vaccinated if available;
* Maintain a distance of at least 1 meter from others, even if they don't appear sick;
* Wear a mask correctly in poorly ventilated environments;
* Open windows if indoors;
* Wash hands regularly with soap and water, or alcohol-based hand sanitizer;
* Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing;
* If you feel unwell, stay home and isolate yourself until you recover.
