Data from the Indonesian Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (KemenPPA) shows that 24,158 cases of violence against children were reported throughout 2023.
Of these, the most common type was sexual violence, with 10,932 cases.
This was followed by 4,511 cases of psychological violence, 4,511 cases of physical violence, and 1,332 cases of child neglect.
There were also 260 cases of child exploitation, 206 cases of trafficking or child selling, and 2,507 cases of other types of violence.
KemenPPA data indicates that victims of violence can experience more than one type of violence. A total of 16,884 victims were reported to have experienced one type of violence.
Furthermore, 2,794 victims experienced two types of violence, 485 victims experienced three types, and 58 victims experienced more than three types.
Overall, there were 18,175 reported cases of violence against children from January to December 2023. Of these, 14,449 victims were girls and 5,772 were boys.
This data was compiled based on the input time of the victim or reporter, collected as of April 1, 2024. The data originates from reports in KemenPPA's Simfoni application.
Case of Assault Against the Child of Selebgram Emy Aghnia
Social media is currently abuzz with the case of assault against the child of selebgram Emy Aghnia, also known as Aghnia Punjabi. The perpetrator is IPS (27), the child's caregiver.
The Head of Criminal Investigation at the Malang City Police, Kompol Danang Yudanto, revealed that IPS's motive for assaulting JAP (3) was annoyance with the victim's refusal to be treated.
“There were several contributing factors, personal ones, including a family member being ill. However, this cannot be used as a justification for committing violence against a child,” Danang said in a press conference, as reported by *Kompas TV*, Saturday (30/3/2024).
Police are currently investigating the case further, including analyzing CCTV footage to identify the forms of violence committed by IPS.
For her actions, IPS is charged under Article 80 (1) sub (2) of Law No. 35 of 2014, amending Law No. 23 of 2022, sub Article 77 of Law No. 35 of 2014, amending Law No. 23 of 2002 concerning Child Protection, with a potential sentence of 5 years imprisonment.
