The Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) reported that the realization of Indonesia's education budget in the 2024 State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN) reached Rp133.7 trillion by March 2024.
This figure fulfills 20.1% of the APBN 2024 budget allocation. It also shows a 12.3% year-on-year (yoy) growth compared to the same period last year (Rp119.1 trillion in March 2023).
"This amount is very significant, because we all know that the education budget is 20% of our [APBN] expenditure," said Sri Mulyani, Minister of Finance, in an online press conference on the Ministry of Finance's YouTube channel on Friday, April 26, 2024.
Of the 2024 actualization amount, the largest portion, Rp80.9 trillion, was allocated for transfers to regions (TKD).
In this category, the budget was used for earmarked general allocation funds (DAU) for education to improve the quality of basic services in regions; operational school assistance (BOS) for 43.7 million students; and PAUD BOS for 6.2 million children.
In addition, Rp38.3 trillion of the education budget was absorbed for ministry/agency (K/L) spending.
Specifically, for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek), this included the Smart Indonesia Program (PIP) for 7.9 million students; the Smart Indonesia Card (KIP) for 605,300 students; and non-civil servant teacher professional allowances (TPG) for 6,900 teachers.
Furthermore, Rp16 trillion was channeled to the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag). This was used for teacher salaries; PIP for 1.5 million students; KIP for 37,100 students; and BOS for 4.2 million students.
However, Sri Mulyani did not mention the realization or exact figures for the programs implemented by these two institutions, only the target recipients.
Other education budget allocations included Rp15 trillion for the Education Endowment Fund as of March 2024.
