Based on Mobile World Live's findings in its 2025 Industry Survey, there are at least eight biggest issues facing the global mobile industry today.
The biggest issue highlighted was the benefits of 5G implementation, which was selected by 24% of respondents from the industry.
As found by the GSMA, mobile network operators will spend US$1.5 trillion on capital expenditure between 2023 and 2030. Of that budget, more than three-quarters will be spent on 5G.
"It’s a vast outlay. So perhaps it’s not surprising that, as in last year’s survey, 5G monetisation is the industry’s biggest issue," stated Mobile World Live in its report.
Furthermore, 22% of respondents stated that security is among the biggest issues in the mobile industry in 2025. According to Mobile World Live, this finding is eight points higher than in 2024.
"At the other end of the poll, just three percent are concerned about spectrum," said Mobile World Live.
The complete results of the poll on the biggest issues facing the mobile industry in 2025 are as follows:
- Generating a return on 5G deployments: 24%
- Security: 22%
- Connecting the unconnected: 15%
- Capex costs: 13%
- Moving to more open architecture: 11%
- Sustainability – hitting net zero: 7%
- Lack of regulation to curb big tech: 5%
- Lack of spectrum: 3%.
In the Industry Survey 2025, Mobile World Live involved 300 respondents working in the fields of mobile network operators, software and application development, network infrastructure vendors, and manufacturing and consulting. Half of the respondents were based in Europe, a quarter in North and South America, and the remainder in Asia and Africa.
